                                        We at Mt Olive Church believe in the essence of the Christian faith. Basically, we believe in Jesus, the Son of God, who was crucified, dead, buried, and resurrected for the payment of our sins. We believe the Bible to be the living Word of God. We also believe that the One True God who created the entirety of the universe also wants to have a personal relationship with you. We believe that by accepting His gift to us, Jesus, we move from death to life. One other thing, we don’t believe we’ve got it all figured out either. We understand that we are all on this journey called life, and that God intended for us to do this life together. So, if you find yourself a lonesome traveler, we extend an invitation to you to join with us.

                                        There’s more…

                                        Countless others have journeyed before us. They had a lot to say about what they believe. Here are a couple of their recitations, with a few explanatory notes added in parentheses:

                                        The Apostles' Creed

                                        The Twelves Apostles
                                        The Twelve Apostles
                                        (The Apostle's Creed has been used by Christians for nearly 2000 years.No one is sure who exactly wrote the creed, but tradition holds that each of the 12 Apostles contributed to it.  Though that isn't true, versions of it did appear as early as 215 AD where they were used in teaching the basic tenants of the faith.)

                                        I believe in God the Father Almighty,
                                        maker of heaven and earth;

                                        And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord:
                                        who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
                                        born of the Virgin Mary,
                                        suffered under Pontius Pilate,
                                        was crucified, dead, and buried;
                                        the third day he rose from the dead;
                                        he ascended into heaven,
                                        and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
                                        from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

                                        I believe in the Holy Spirit,
                                        the holy catholic* church,
                                        the communion of saints,
                                        the forgiveness of sins,
                                        the resurrection of the body,
                                        and the life everlasting. Amen.

                                        The Nicene Creed (from the first Council of Nicea - 325AD)

                                        Nicean Creed
                                        The Emperor Constantine and the bishops from the council holding the Nicean Creed
                                        We believe in one God,
                                           the Father, the Almighty,
                                           maker of heaven and earth,
                                           of all that is, seen and unseen.

                                        We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ,
                                           the only Son of God,
                                           eternally begotten of the Father,
                                           God from God, Light from Light,
                                           true God from true God,
                                           begotten, not made,
                                           of one Being with the Father.
                                           through him all things were made.
                                           For us and for our salvation
                                              he came down from heaven;
                                              by the power of the Holy Spirit
                                              he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary,
                                            and became truly human.
                                              For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate;
                                              he suffered death and was buried.
                                        On the third day he rose again
                                              in accordance with the Scriptures;
                                              he ascended into heaven
                                              and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
                                              He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead,
                                              and his kingdom will have no end.

                                        We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
                                           who proceeds from the Father and the Son.
                                           Who with the Father and the Son
                                              is worshiped and glorified,
                                           who has spoken through the Prophets.
                                           We believe in one holy catholic* and apostolic Church.
                                           We acknowledge one baptism
                                               for the forgiveness of sins.
                                           We look for the resurrection of the dead,
                                           and the life of the world to come. Amen.

                                        *catholic in both creeds means "universal" not the Roman Catholic church.  The word catholic is a Latin word meaning "universal" so to say that we believe in the holy catholic church is simply to say that we believe that all followers of Jesus belong to one universal church united in Him, regardless of denomination.
